Jordan R. Hill, PhD

Dr. Hill is a postdoc at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a postdoctoral co-director of the Health Innovation Lab.  She holds a B.Eng in Aerospace Engineering and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering.

Where are you from?
I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I completed my undergraduate education at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario and my graduate studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Why are you here?
I love to solve complex problems--whether they be in the fields of healthcare, aerospace, or beyond--using human-centered solutions. My involvement with the Health Innovation Lab gives me the opportunity to tackle complex issues in the healthcare field using various human factors, usability, and systems engineering approaches. I am also passionate about working in teams and teaching others about the importance of considering the human in the system. I want human-centered approaches to be widely used.

What do you do?
I lead teams, analyze to understand a problem, work to develop and deploy a solution, and evaluate the solution's efficacy. Research, with an applied twist!

What are your skills?
I am a problem solver who is good at seeing the big-picture. Not only do I want to solve problems, but I want to understand the problem and how it fits into the larger system in order to develop the most comprehensive solution. Having performed research in various fields, I not only bring different perspectives to my work, but I also value diverse experiences and multi-disciplinary teams when conducting research.

What are your hobbies?
I love to make things with my hands and be crafty; I knit, sew, and cross stitch. I like to stay active playing sports (I was a college basketball player in Canada!), cycling, swimming, and jogging. Though I don't often get the opportunity anymore, I also like to do all the traditional Canadian winter activities like skiing, ice skating, and snowshoeing. I live with my husband and our two dogs.
