Health Innovation Lab director Dr. Holden and former student Nicole Werner, PhD, received the Best Paper Award from the journal Applied Ergonomics for their article, "Interruptions in the wild: Development of a sociotechnical systems model of interruptions in the emergency department through a systematic review."
The paper reviews and synthesizes 15 international studies of interruptions in the emergency room (ER) and develops a model of interruptions in complex, team-based settings. The article was written with collaborator Dr. Werner, an assistant professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The best paper award is given to the best paper of the year in the top-ranked journal Applied Ergonomics. Another of Dr. Holden's articles was also a finalist for the award in the previous year.
