Victor P. Cornet, MS

PhD Candidate

PhD candidate at the School of Informatics at IUPUI. With a background in computer science, Victor is conducting research exploring the intersection of mental health and opportunities and challenges brought by new technologies.

Where are you from?
I came to Indianapolis from my hometown Paris, France. I also feel some attachment to Seattle, where I spent one year of my undergraduate studies as part of an exchange program between French graduate school ESIEE and Seattle University.

Why are you here?
I am pursuing a PhD in Human Computer Interaction from the School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI. My initial motivations for conducting research in Indianapolis – and especially on the IUPUI campus - were the proximity of numerous world-class hospitals and the numerous opportunities brought by being in the heart of Indianapolis; this environment encourages fruitful research in health-related domains.

What do you do?
I am exploring the intersection of mental health and opportunities and challenges brought by new technologies. I am particularly interested in how social media platforms influence the current discussion about mental illness across different geographical regions.

What are your skills?
I am able to think logically, even at critical times, and outside the box when needed. I am always aware of the goals to achieve and, when working in a team, I am able to keep the focus of team members on the common objectives to realize.

What are your hobbies?
I am very passionate about languages; I took English, German, and Spanish during middle school and high school, and Japanese in college. More recently, I have been maintaining my Japanese language skills as well as studying Korean.
I also like creating websites; I actually set up this very website with Drupal, and created the theme from Bootstrap. Other websites of mine include Paris Blogger, and hip-hop-videos.tv.
